Title: “Angliae, Scotiae, et Hiberniae, sive Britannicar: Insularum Descriptio”
The third state of this very decorative map of ancient British Isles with north orientated to the east. Based on Mercator’s 1564 map of the British isles and improved by Saxton’s 1579 map. Embellishments include seven ships and three decorative strap work cartouches. Comes from Ortelius 1573 latin edition atlas “Theatrum Orbis Terrarum”, the first modern atlas of the world.

Technique: copper engraving
Poor condition, but will look very decorative in the frame. Strong paper with map maker’s watermark, original contemporary hand coloring. Tears, brownish paper, old restorations, wormholes, water stains, few very small parts are missing and etc.
