Description:

Allegorical map showing Europe in the shape of a woman by Heinrich Bunting, rare copperplate engraving. The representation of Europa Regina, or Queen of the World, was first drawn by Johannes Bucius in 1537. Spain is shown as a the head of the continent’s political system. Bohemia is in the placement of the heart. France is a “chest”; Italy is the right hand and the British Isles and Scandinavia are floating in the seas. The map is finely engraved and embellished with ships and sea monsters.

The map comes from the Heinrich Bunting book “Itinerarium Sacrae Scripturae”, published in Brunswick, 1646.
