Description:
Very rare and detailed double sheet map of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus and the western part of Ukraine, published in Venice by Vincenzo Maria Coronelli. Map shows Poland at the beginning of its decline, during the second half of the 17th Century during the reign of John III Sobieski. The map includes a number of annotations, including a reference to the fortification of the town of Kudak and a number of similar annotations near the lower Dnieper. A reference to the fortification of Kiev in the early 17th Century is shown. Series of dates showing the different countries which controlled the city of Smolensk between 1403 (Lithuania) and 1654 (Russia). Second state.

The map comes from Vincenzo Maria Coronelli atlas “Corso Geografico Universale…” published in Venice, circa 1692.
