Title:                   “Stokholmia Orientem versus”​


Description:

Large and very detailed panoramic view of Stockholm, Sweden. The view shows the city at the height of its economic power centered on the Skeppsbron, a street and a quay in the old town. Three coat of arms are depicted: with a closed and open crown and a multi-bladed rose. The Royal Palace and a lot of cathedrals and churches are identified. Many ships on Saltsjön in the foreground give the city its character as a sea and trading city.

The map comes from Erik von Dahlberg’s book “Suecia Antiqua et Hodiernia”  engraved by Willem Swidde in Stockholm, 1693.

Very good condition. Pressed on two sheets, joined, as issued. Watermarked paper. Wide margins. Reinforced on verso, folding lines and around edges.
