1705 – P. Schenk – Augusto Polon Lithuan
Title: “Friderico Augusto Vere Augusto. Polon. Lithuan. Borus. Pomer. Regi. Duci. Principi. Saxon. Utr. Duci S. Imp. Elect. Haec. Imperii. Sui. Regna.”
Very rare and detailed map by Petrus Schenk, second edition, showing the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Poland, part of Russia, Latvia, Estonia and Belarus. There is a large cartouche in the upper left corner picturing Frederick Augustus II, the Elector of Saxony, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania. On the right side of the cartouche is a clerical figure, perhaps Nicolaus Copernicus, viewing the heavens with an astrolabe. There is an inset map in the upper right corner showing the Electorate of Saxony.
Cartographer: Petrus Schenk (1660 – 1711)
Sheet size: 61,3 x 51,7 cm
Technique: copper engraving
Good condition. Contemporary hand coloring. Few restorations and retouche (due to green color oxidation). For protective reason verso covered with japanese tissue. Acid free paper tape around edges on verso, only in margin (map was in the frame before).
This is an original antique map published in 1705 and NOT a modern copy or reprint
