Large and detailed birds eye view of Rome and Vatican by Matthaus Merian using the late XVI century eastward oriented model which shows the city right after the city’s re-organization completed by Pope Sixtus V. The graphic view shows many of the important buildings, churches and monuments, including many that have subsequently been demolished.
Comes from atlas “Theatrum Europaeum“, published by Matthäus Merian at Franfurt am Main, ca. 1642.
