Description:
Antique woodcut, highly detailed, birds eye view of Rouffach, France, the city in which Sebastian Munster studied when he was young. It showing the famous Château D’Isenbourg located in the heart of the vineyards on the Alsace wine route and the The Église Notre-Dame de l’Assomption cathedral in the centre of Rouffach. A long flowing banner title cartouche bearing the name of the town and the date 1548 runs across the top.
The map comes from the Latin edition of Sebastian Münster’s Cosmography, titled “Cosmographiae uniuersalis Lib. VI., in quibus, iuxta certioris fidei scriptorum traditionem describuntur, Omnium habitabilis orbis partiu[m] situs … ”, published by Heinrich Petri in Basel, 1550.
