Description:
Very decorative title page from the Nicolas de Fer’s important work “Les Forces de l’Europe, ou Description des principales villes, avec leurs fortifications.”. The central image is a shop sign design featuring an armillary sphere and globe, surrounded by allegorical figures representing geography, cartography, and the goods de Fer sold. The text surrounding the central sphere lists various maps, atlases, and geographical games available from his shop, including plans of Paris, Venice, and various theaters of war.
The engraving was designed and etched by Nicolas Guerard.
