Title: “Norbegia et Gottia”
The 7th edition of Ptolemy’s Geographia the map of Scandinavia by Lorenz Fries based on the work of Martin Wäldseemüller and the Ulm map of 1482 by Claudius Clavus. It has the first printed depiction of Greenland. The text on the right edge describes the lengthening hours of daylight as a traveler moves north.
Comes from the atlas “Geographicae enarrationis libri octo Ex Bilibaldi Pirckeymheri tralatione, fed ad Graeca & prisca exemplaria…” published in 1535 in Lyon after Lorenz Fries by Melchior & Gaspar Trechsel. The atlas was translated by Willibald Pirckheimer and revised by Michael Servetus.
