Description:
A very decorative map of Ireland with North oriented at 90 degrees. This map of Ireland based on Mercator’s 1564 wall map of the British Isles, presented with west oriented to the top. This is the first separate map of Ireland to include the counties and towns, rivers, lakes, forests, coastal islands and a host of other details. There are a pair of ships in the stormy sea off the northern coastline. It shows also a row of fictitious islands between Wexford and Dublin.
The map comes from Latin edition of Ortelius’ atlas “Theatrum Orbis Terrarum…” published in Antwerp, 1575.

Reasonable condition. Contemporary coloring. Watermarked paper. Due to green color oxidation a few restorations present. Small loss in top middle fold.
