Description:
The first edition of Leonardo Cernoti’s Italian translation of Ptolemy’s Geografia based on the 1596 Latin edition of Magini map of Scandinavia. The map based on Ortelius’ and shows two Greenlands, the imaginary islands of Frisland, St. Brendain and many other small, phantom islands in the North Sea.

Issued by Claudius Ptolemaeus edited by Giovanni Magini and Leonardo Cernoti in atlas “Geografia cioe Descrittione Universale della Terra … Nuovamente … Rincontrati, & Corretti … Gio. Ant. Magini … Opera … Tradotta dal R.D. Leonardo Cernoti …” published by Giovanni Battista Galignani and Giorgio Galignani in Venice, 1597.
