Description:
Antique woodcut map of Bohemia, Czech Republic, created by the German cartographer Sebastian Münster. Münster based this depiction on the 1518 map by Nicolaus Claudianus (Mikuláš Klaudyán), which was the first separate printed map of Bohemia. Unlike modern maps, many editions of this woodcut were oriented with South at the top. The city of Prague (Praha) is shown at the center of the region.
Map comes from the German edition of Sebastian Münster’s Cosmography, titled “Cosmographey oder beschreibung aller Länder, Herrschafften, fürnemmsten Stetten, geschichten, gebreüchen, handtierungen &c.”, published in 1598 by Heinrich Petri in Basel.
