1659 – N. Sanson – Harmonie ou Correspondance du Globe
Title: “Harmonie ou Correspondance du Globe avecq la Sphere par les Points, Lignes, Cercles &c. qui se Descrivent en la Surface des Globes Terrestres . . .”
This is very unusual, double hemisphere map engraved by Jean Somer Pruthensus. It featuring particular emphasis on latitudes, zones and meridians. There are no place names and the interior of the continents are completely blank. California, Korea shown as an Island and unusual rendering of Australia. This map comes from Sanson’s atlase. Map dated 1659!

Technique: copper engraving
Reasonable condition. Slightly browned and stained. Small marginal defects, tears, creases professionally repaired. Paper with map maker’s watermark.
