Description:

Rare and highly detailed copper engraving portrait of Stefan Czarniecki (1599–1665), a prominent Polish nobleman and military commander. He was a highly distinguished general and served as the Field Hetman of the Crown for the Kingdom of Poland. Czarniecki is particularly celebrated for his role during the Polish-Russian War and the “Swedish Deluge” (the invasion of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth by Sweden).

The print comes from Matthäus Merian book “Theatri Europaei continuati septennium: Das ist, Sieben-Jährige Historisch-außgeführte Friedens- und Kriegs-Beschreibung vom Jahr 1647 biß 1651…” engraved by Peter Aubri, published in Frankfurt, 1672.
