1693 – E. J. Dahlberg – Stokholmia Orientem versus
Title: “Stokholmia Orientem versus”
Large and very detailed panoramic view of Stockholm, Sweden. The view shows the city at the height of its economic power centered on the Skeppsbron, a street and a quay in the old town. Three coat of arms are depicted: with a closed and open crown and a multi-bladed rose. The Royal Palace and a lot of cathedrals and churches are identified. Many ships on Saltsjön in the foreground give the city its character as a sea and trading city.
The map comes from Erik von Dahlberg’s book “Suecia Antiqua et Hodiernia” engraved by Willem Swidde in Stockholm, 1693.
