Description:
Extremely rare and decorative copper engraving represents the Karlsruhe Palace, Germany.

The map includes Karlsruhe and the surrounding area with the following places: Rußheim, Graben, Dettenheim, Liedolsheim, Spöck, Hochstetten, Friedrichstal, Staffort, Linkenheim, Stutensee, Schröck, Blankenloch, Eggenstein, Büchig (“Buchet”), Neureut, Hagsfeld, Knielingen, Entenfang, Rintheim, Gottesaue, Durlach, Grötzingen, Appenmühle, Mühlburg, Beiertheim, Bulach and Wolfartsweier.
Floor plan of Karlsruhe with castle, park and outbuildings, Linkenheimer, Mühlburger and Durlacher gates. Streets marked with numbers and named in the legend. Buildings subsequently marked in red. Avenues marked with letters and named after the knights. Animal enclosures drawn behind the castle.
“Prospect gegen Mittag”: town and castle drawn as views and with letters, description in the legend. The Concordia Church, the Catholic church later the water tower, is shown. Avenues are marked with letters and named after the knights.
A title cartouche with a large Baden coat of arms and a prince’s hat held by two griffins.

The engraving comes from Homann Erben atlas “Atlas Major…”, drawings of Johann Jacob Baumeister, engraver Michael Rößler, published in Nuremberg, 1739.
