Description:
Extremely rare and decorative copper engraving represents plans and elevations of the Karlsruhe Palace, Germany, from the first construction phase – that is, at the time of the city’s founder, Margrave Karl Wilhelm of Baden-Durlach. Several buildings and parts of the palace complex are arranged in five rows in floor plans and elevations. In addition to the menagerie and the rabbit hutches, the round pavilions, which are also located on the north side of the palace, can be seen. On the right edge, a section through the large hall of the west wing (Corps de Logis) and an elevation of the palace’s outer façade are shown. In the bottom row is a transversely rectangular park parterre.

The engraving comes from Homann Erben atlas “Atlas Major…”, drawings of Johann Jacob Baumeister, engraver Michael Rößler, published in Nuremberg, 1739.
