Description:
Very decorative antique copper engraved map of Poland, Lithuania and parts of Latvia, Belarus, Ukraine and Russia. It depicts the Polish boundaries set following the First partition of Poland. To the left and right of the map are paste downs of French text with remarks and description of the map. Surrounding the whole map is an elaborate decorative border featuring floral arrangements, surveying tools, elaborate baroque scalloping and a winged globe.
The map comes from Louis Brion de la Tour atlas “Atlas General Methodique et Élémentaire, pour l’étude de la Géographie et de l’Histoire moderne adapté a toutes les Géographies, mais particulerement a celle de l’Abbé Nicole de la Croix: dressé d’après les meuileures Cartes Françoises et Etrangers …. A Paris chez le Sr. Desnos Ingénieur-Géographe pour les Globes et Spheres …. M.DCC.LXXVI.” published by Louis Charles Desnos in Paris, 1786.
