Very rare, decorative and detailed map of eastern Estonia, the area between lakes Võrtsjärv and Peipus. The map features the coat of arms of the city of Doerpt (Tartu).
It has been created by the general staff officer and Riga district administrator Ludwig August von Mellin after survey of Livonia, which had become necessary after the Russian administrative reform of 1783, on the orders of Grand Duke Paul and following the example of A. W. Hupel. The result of the project that lasted more than 10 years was the atlas “Atlas von Liefland, oder von den beyden Gouvernementern u. Herzogthümern Lief- und Ehstland, und der Provinz Oesel…” (other contributors Karl Jaettnig, Friedrich Guimpel, J. N. Champion, F. G. Franz and Johann Wilhelm Krause). Engraved by Carl Jäck, F.
