Description:

The rare reduced version of Mercator’s and Jodocus Hondius map of the islands of Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Margarita and Havana harbor. The accompanying text describes Spanish plantations, sugar production, and the city of Santo Domingo (Saint Dominick). 

The map comes from the atlas “Hakluytus Posthumus or, Purchas his Pilgrimes…” by Samuel Purchas and printed in London by William Stansby for Henrie Fetherstone. Samuel Purchas added the narratives from sailors who returned to England from their voyages to a vast compilation of unsorted manuscripts, which were left to him by Richard Hakluyt.
