1,500

Titles:           “Idea Dell’ Universo”

One of the most beautiful, extremely decorative and rare large celestial chart by Italian cosmographer and cartographer Vincenzo Maria Coronelli. It presents twelve zodiac signs in the center, in the borders 28 numbered diagrams which include maps of Europe, Asia, Africa, and the New World, global climates, planetary rulers, lunar mansions, diagrams of solar and lunar eclipse, relations between alchemical spiriti, the ebb and flow of waters, the winds and a zodiac man. In the center a cartouche dedicated to Abbot Sebastiano Venier. Most notably, Coronelli presents a cross-section of Earth with Dante’s circles of Hell portrayed.

The map comes from Vincenzo Maria Coronelli atlas “Corso Geografico Universale…” published in Venice, 1693.
