Description:
Extremely rare, FIRST EDITION 1/1 (first plate / first issue), antique map of Polish – Lithuanian Commonwealth including territories of Latvia, Prussia and Belarus. A gorgeous allegorical cartouche fills the Baltic Sea and features Ares, god of war, holding both a spear and a laurel wreath. The Polish – Lithuanian Commonwealth coat of arms without the royal coat of arms in the center. Two Queen bees flying above beehives – symbolizing the industry.
The map includes Swedish army routes during the Great Northern War:
Route No. 1 – 1700-10-06 Pärnu – 1700-11-20 Narva – 1701-07-09 Riga
Route No. 2 – Riga – 1701-07-19 Daugava – Mintauja –Koknese –Bauske –Biržai.
Route No. 3 – Liepaja 1701-09-15 – Biržai (reinforcement before the march to Poland).
