1914 – E. Muller – Europe

120

Title:                      “Europe”

Description:

A very rare satirical map of Europe, French postcard. Each of the countries represented as the head of their leader or by a national personification. Spain appears in the costume of a matador; Emperor Wilhelm in a pointed helmet; the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed V in a characteristic fez. Victor Emmanuel, with characteristic upright moustache, peeks out of the boot of Italy; the emperor Franz Joseph has two impressive sideburns in Austria. George V is pictured smoking a pipe. The enormous face of the Tsar looks menacingly at the three countries of the hostile Triple Alliance.
