Title:                      “Eyfalia”​

Spectacular ​woodcut of mythical sea monster eating a man and another runs for his life. Verso south-oriented map shows the course of the Rhine from Ingelheim, Bonn and Cologne to Dusseldorf with the Hunsrück and Eifel, Germany.

The woodcut comes from the French edition of Sebastian Münster’s Cosmography, titled “La Cosmographie Universelle, contenant la situation de toutes les parties du monde, auecleurs proprietez & appartenances”, engraved by Urs Graf, published  by Heinrich Petri in Basel, 1565.
