Rare and highly detailed copper engraving portrait of Kristupas Radvila (the younger) (1585–1640), Krzysztof Radziwiłł (Радзівіл) family, second edition.

Kristupas Radvila – the Duke, the Governor of Vilnius and the Grand Hetman of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (1633 / 1635–1640), descended from a branch of the dukes of Biržai in the Radvila family. He is the son of Kristupas Radvila Perkūnas, the father of Jonušas Radvila, the brother of Jonušas Radvila. He fought the Swedes, taking Biržai and Mintauja (1625). Kristupas Radvila (junior) participated in 1632–1634 Smolensk war with Russia. The Duke is the first military commander of the Republic of the Two Nations to add dragoons to the army.

The print comes from Matthäus Merian book “Theatri Europaei continuati septennium: Das ist, Sieben-Jährige Historisch-außgeführte Friedens- und Kriegs-Beschreibung vom Jahr 1647 biß 1651…” engraved by Peter Aubri, published in Frankfurt, 1663.
