Title:                      “Mappa Geographica Utriusque Terrae Hemisphaerii ad emendatiora exempla adhuc edita jussu Acad. Regiae Scietn. an Eleg. A little. Borussicae descripta.”​

Description:

Decorative, double hemisphere map of the World, prepared for the Royal Prussian Academy of Sciences. The map provides a highly scientific look at the world, including diagrams showing the current of the ocean near the equator and 4 smaller hemispheres showing various projections of the earth’s surface. Incomplete projections of Australia and New Zealand. Stamped with the Prussian tax, privilege stamp.

Comes from Leonhard Euler’s atlas, one of the first German atlases intended for use in schools “Geographischer Atlas bestehend in 44. Land-Charten …“, engraved by Nikolaus Friedrich Sauerbrey, published in Berlin, 1752.
