Description:
Very rare (uncolored) and decorative map by Carel Allard, showing the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Poland, part of Russia, Latvia, Estonia and Belarus. A cartouche decorated with a four-field coat of arms with an eagle and the Pursuit and the Wettin coat of arms supported by two putti. Under the cartouche an allegory praising the victory of the papacy after the conversion of Frederick Augustus Wettin to Catholicism.
The map comes from Carel Allard atlas “Atlas Major, seu universi terrarum orbis geographicum compendium, recentiffimas…” published in Amsterdam, c. 1697.
