Titles:           “Mare del Nord…Dedicato all’ Illmo. et Eccmo. Sig. il Sig Giovanni Grimani Savio di terra ferma”

Attractive Vincenzo Coronelli’s copper engraved map of North Atlantic Ocean that includes North America, the Northern coast of South America, the the west coast of Europe and parts of the Western African continent. An annotation at the top of the map attributes the discovery of America to Antonio Zena – a Venetian nobleman – who claimed to have traveled to North America around 1390.

The map comes from Vincenzo Maria Coronelli atlas “Atlante Veneto…” published in Venice, 1691.
