Title:                      “IL Mappamondo o sia Descrizione Generale del Globo”​

Description:
​Attractive double-hemisphere world map with allegorical figures of the Four Continents. It includes the voyages of Cook and Bougainville between 1766-1771. The eastern coastline of Australia is very inaccurate, New Zealand appears as two islands, Tasmania is shown joined to the Australian mainland, Greenland is connected to the North American continent and Alaska is considerably oversized.

The map comes from Zatta’s atlas “Atlante Novissimo, illustrato ed accresciuto sulle osservazioni, e scoperte fatte dai piu’ celebri e piu’ recenti geografi” drawn by Giovanni Pitteri, engraved by Giuliano Zuliani and published in Venice.
