c. 1970 – Pellerin – Le Chat Botté
40 €
Title: “LE CHAT BOTTÉ”
Description:
Puss in Boots, the clever cat of Charles Perrault’s famous tale (1697), shown as a swaggering musketeer. He wears a white ruff, a blue doublet trimmed with gold, a scarlet cape, pale blue breeches and tall black boots with spurs, with a sword at his side, and he sweeps off his plumed hat in a bow.
An image d’Épinal from the Imagerie Pellerin in Épinal, the most famous maker of French popular prints. The image is printed in black and coloured by stencil (pochoir) in the bright, flat colours typical of Épinal prints. It is printed on fine Arches mould-made paper with deckle edges and the “Arches” watermark, made at the historic paper mill of Arches, just a few kilometres from Épinal, rather than on the ordinary paper of the everyday prints. A cheerful decorative print, perfect for a child’s room or for lovers of cats and fairy tales.
