Description:

Very decorative map of Iceland, based on Bishop Gudbrandur Thorláksson and published by Gerard Mercator – Jodocus Hondius. It shows mountains, fiords, the eruption in Hekla and decorated with a strapwork title cartouche, a sea monster and distance scale.

Comes from the French edition atlas “Gerardi Mercatoris et I. Hondii Atlas ou Representation du Monde Universel, et des Parties d’icelui, faicte en Tables et Descriptions tres amples, et exactes: divisé en deux tomes. Edition nouvelle A Amsterdam chez Henry Hondius” published in Amsterdam, by H. Hondius, 1619.
