Description:

The rare reduced version of Mercator’s map of Iceland, it was published by Jodocus Hondius who had taken over Mercator’s business. It contains a lot of details, 115 place names, the fire-spewing Hekla and sea creature. Hondius’ map of Island reissued from the third part of “Hakluytus Posthumus or, Purchas his Pilgrimes” by Samuel Purchas. He added the narratives from sailors who returned to England from their voyages to a vast compilation of unsorted manuscripts, which were left to him by Richard Hakluyt.
