Description:

Rare and highly detailed copper engraving portrait of Mykhailo Krychevsky or Stanisław Krzyczewski or Krzeczowski – a Polish noble of Ruthenian descent. He served under the command of Grand Hetman of the Crown, Stanisław Koniecpolski, as a hussar captain. He fought for the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth against various Cossack revolts and Crimean Tatar factions. He participated in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth troops in the Battle of Zhovty Vody, where he was captured by the Tatars. B. Khmelnytsky ransomed him, and Krychevski went over to his side. In 1649, already as acting hetman, he set out for the lands of Lithuania, in the Battle of Lojev the Cossack army was defeated, Michal Krychevski himself was seriously wounded, taken prisoner and died.
