Description:

Very rare and decorative map of Africa continent, based on Sanson’s map first published in 1650, the first general map of Africa engraved and published in England. The map decorated with ships, sea monsters, coat of arms and title cartouche. It includes a heraldic dedication to Charles Howard, the 1st Earl of Carlisle, the patron who bought atlases in advance and was rewarded by having this coat of arms displayed on the maps. This is the third state of the map.

Comes from the atlas “the Geographical Description Of The Four Parts Of The World… ” engraved by Francis Lamb and published by Richard Blome in London, 1682.
