Description:

Rare and highly detailed copper engraving portrait of John III Sobieski, also known as Jan III Sobieski, Jonas III Sobieskis, Ioannes III Sobiscius (1629 – 1696), wearing fur cloak fastened with brooch and sash over armour. He was King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1674 until his death and gained a victory in a war with Turks – battle under Chocim 1673 and under Wien 1683.

The print comes from Matthäus Merian book “Theatri Europaei Continuati Zwölffter Theil Das ist: Abermalige Außführliche Fortsetzung Denck und Merckwürdigster Geschichten…” published by Johann Görlinin in Frankfurt, 1691.
