Description:
Very decorative plan of the fortified city of Nice, France. It illustrates the complex bastion fortifications and the citadel that once defended the city. The plan depicts Nice as an important “Ville Frontiere d’Italie” (Frontier City of Italy) during a period of frequent conflict between France and the Duchy of Savoy.
The engraving comes from the Nicolas de Fer atlas “Les Forces de l’Europe, ou Description des principales villes, avec leurs fortifications.” engraved by Herman van Loon, published in Paris, 1693.
