Description:
Very decorative plan of the fortified city of Wismar, Germany. The central text identifies Wismar as a “Ville Anseatique d’Allemagne” (Hanseatic city of Germany) in the Duchy of Mecklenburg. It notes its location on the Baltic Sea and mentions that it had belonged to Sweden since 1648.
The engraving comes from the Nicolas de Fer atlas “Les Forces de l’Europe, ou Description des principales villes, avec leurs fortifications.” engraved by Herman van Loon, published in Paris, 1693.
