$2,310.00

Title:           “BOLOGNA”

Description:

Very rare and decorative bird’s eye view of Bologna, Italy, from the north, with the city territory between Porta San Felice and Porta Romana. The two coats of arms present: on the left of Pope Lambertini, on the right that of Bologna. Along the lower margin there are 68 names in Italian, while in the two upper panels are in German. The view was created according to the model of the Silesian military engineer and topographer Friedrich Bernhard Werner, who worked for Augsburg publishers. He was the most productive draftsman of topographical views in the first half of the 18th century. The graphics were published in the Augsburg publishing house of Johann Balthasar Probst, who was an engraver and publisher. Werner visited much of Europe and in 1730 he came to Italy with stops in Mantua, Bologna, Rome and Naples.
