Spectacular woodcut by Michael Wolgemut and Wilhelm Pleydenwurff with the scene of killing the priest near the castle.

The woodcut comes from the Stephan Fridolin book “Schatzbehalter der wahren Reichtümer des Heils.”, woodblock cutters Michael Wolgemut and Wilhelm Pleydenwurff, printed by Anton Koberger in Nuremberg, 1491.

This is one of the earliest German illustrated books with woodcuts and one of the great monuments of late gothic woodcut design. The Schatzbehalter was written by Stephan Fridolin, the text is based on Scripture and tells the story of the life and passion of Christ in 100 events.
