Very decorative and prestigious “carte à figures”- map. Map bordered by images of various European ethnicities in traditional 17th century dress. The upper border with views of London, Paris, Rome, Venice, Constantinople, Prague, Amsterdam and Lisbon. English text on verso. Map dated 1626.

The map comes from John Speed atlas “Prospect of The Most Famous Parts of the World. . .” , engraved by Abraham Goos, published by Thomas Bassett & Richard Chiswell in London, 1626.
