Description:

Rare and decorative city view of Constantinople, Istanbul, Turkey. Engraved by Alexander Glaser after F.B. Werner by J.G. Ringlin drawing, published in “Europäische Städteansichten” by Martin Engelbrecht in Augsburg, ca. 1740. In the lower margin engraved explanations 1 – 23 in Latin and German. Copper engraving shows a panorama of the capital seen from other side of the Bosphorus.

Johann Georg Ringlin was German engraver. He worked for the Augsburg publishers M. Engelbrecht and J.A. Pfeffel as well as J. Fr. Probst and G. Rogg.

Friedrich Bernhard Werner was major image illustrator and engraver. On behalf of the Augsburg art publisher Jeremias Wolff’s, he traveled from 1720 large parts of Europe and made master drawings for copperplate engraving. In 1744 Frederick the Great awarded him the title Royal Prussian Scenographicus.
