Title:                      “A New Mapp of America Septentrionale Designed by Mousieu Sanson Geographer to the French King, and Rendered into English, and Illustrated by Richard Blome…”

Description:

Very rare and decorative map of North America, based on Sanson’s map first published in 1650, the first general map to portray all five Great Lakes engraved and published in England. California is an island. It includes a heraldic of “Anthony Earle of Shaftesbury”, the patron who bought atlases in advance and was rewarded by having this coat of arms displayed on the maps. This is the third state of the map with Carolina named.

Comes from the atlas “the Geographical Description Of The Four Parts Of The World… ” engraved by Francis Lamb and published by Richard Blome in London, 1682.
